First Day: LORETO Meeting with the guide for the visit to the grandiose Sanctuary of the Holy House, a sacred place defined by John Paul II as the “true Marian heart of Christianity”. The sanctuary has been for centuries, and still is today, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world.
Second Day: S. GIOVANNI ROTONDO Guided tour of the places where San Pio of Pietrelcina lived and worked: the Ancient Church and the New Church, both dedicated to Holly Mary of Grace, the crypt with the relics of Saint Pius, the Cell and the Crucifix of the Stigmata. Then we continue to visit the church of San Pio, designed by the architect Renzo Piano, and the new tomb of San Pio, which from April 14, 2010 guard the precious remains of the saint. They adorn the new crypt of the monumental mosaics by Father Rupnik.
Third Day: Excursion to PIETRELCINA e PIANA ROMANA Full day guided tour in Pietrelcina to visit the church of the Capuchin Fathers, built for the express wish of Padre Pio between 1926 and 1951, the parish church of Saint Mary of Angels, where Padre Pio celebrated his first mass on August 14, 1910, and the ancient village, with the Torretta, the birth house, the kitchen, the church of Sant’Anna. In the afternoon transfer to Piana Romana, for a visit to the “masseria” of the Forgione. Near the chapel of San Francesco, with the “elm of the stigmata”, the “high chair” and the well dug by his father on the place indicated by Padre Pio still adolescent.
Fourth Day: MONTE S. ANGELO Guided tour of the town of Monte Sant’Angelo, known to the Christian world for the ancient Sanctuary of St Michael Archangel, a medieval pilgrimage destination from all over Europe. The sanctuary is also one of the greatest places of testimony of the ancient Lombard culture in Italy, so much so that it was included in 2011 by UNESCO in the list of World Heritage Sites. After the visit, do not miss a walk in the fascinating “Junno”, the oldest district of Monte S. Angelo that was born and developed right around its sanctuary.
